Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec were born in Quimper, Brittany, in 1971 and 1976 respectively. After graduating from the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, Ronan started his own business, assisted by his brother Erwan, who at the time was still a student at the School of Fine Arts in Cergy Pointoise. The two brothers have worked together since 1999, and their work is a constant dialogue between their different personalities, both reaching out towards common objectives. The Bouroullec brothers work with several prestigious furniture manufacturers, including Vitra, Cappellini, Issey Mijake, and Habitat. At the same time they have also developed other projects, such as the Floating House, an artist’s studio commissioned by the Chatou Art Centre, and designed in collaboration with architects Denis Daversin and Jean-Marie Finot. They were named Creators of the Year at the Paris Furniture Show, and have also won several international awards, including the New designer Award at the New York International Furniture Fair, the Design Grand Prix in Paris, and First Prize at the Biennale Fair in Saint-Etienne. In 2003 they were voted Designers of the year by Elle Decoration, Japan.
